As a travel destination, Miami is on the hot list…weather-wise and otherwise. Over 11.5 million leisure and business travelers visit Greater Miami and Miami beaches and over 3.7 million passengers cruise with 18 cruise ships with major cruise lines from the Port of Miami each year. Almost one million attendees come to Miami and the beaches for conventions and meetings. It is a great year-round location for a summer vacation or to escape winter doldrums.
According to the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, 95% of Miami visitors arrive at Miami International Airport and the Ft. Lauderdale Airport. Miami International Airport is located just seven miles from downtown Miami. While the majority of visitors rent a car, Miami transportation includes taxis, shuttles and train service from Broward and Palm Beach counties to Le Jeune Road with connecting bus transportation to the air terminal. Getting around Miami is easiest with a rental car; however, if you don’t want to drive, there is public transportation via the Miami Metrorail, Metromover and Tri-rail commuter service.
